Dear visitor, welcome to my new website. Although it is not entirely finished yet, I hope you will enjoy it. Though the Covid days have been quiet and awkward, and are still not over, I was grateful for the work I could still do. I enjoyed playing livestream concerts with ao the Wolfert Brederode Trio, in duo with Kika Sprangers, Yuri Honing Acoustic Quartet and Joost Lijbaart’s ‘Free’. Together with Yuri Honing I recorded the album ‘Avalon Songs’ which has been released on Challenge Records and for the same label the new album of the Guillermo Celano/Marcos Baggiani Quartet will be released beginning of next year.

Last but not least I used the time preparing and rehearsing my newest and very personal project ‘Ruins & Remains’ with drummer Joost Lijbaart and the Matangi Quartet. In August this year we recorded the music in the beautiful Sendesaal in Bremen. I am happy and honored to announce that ‘Ruins & Remains’ will be released on ECM Records in 2022. More information and exact release date to follow soon.

Wolfert Brederode (1974) started playing classical piano and violin and at the age of seven. At his early teenage years on he also discovered pop- and jazz music.

In 1999 he graduated with honors from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where he had been studying with ao Frans Elsen, Albert Brussee and Rob van Kreeveldt.

Wolfert has since then developed into one of the most prominent and authentic  voices on the Dutch jazz scene. His refined and focused touch, the concern for natural flow, his openness and a relentless search for new horizons are characteristic features of his music.

He debuted with groups such as Nimbus, Wolfert Brederode Quintet & Trio, Binary Orchid, Duo Lijbaart/Brederode and Batik. Later he founded his lauded international quartet with ao Claudio Puntin. Ensembles of current interest are the Wolfert Brederode Trio, with Gulli Gudmundsson and Jasper van Hulten, and ‘Ruins & Remains’, a project with drummer Joost Lijbaart and the Matangi Quartet. As a leader he recorded three albums for ECM Records.

As a much in demand sideman Wolfert has been working extensively with ao Susanne Abbuehl and the Yuri Honing Acoustic Quartet. With these groups and his own ensembles he recorded several albums, and toured and performed at festivals throughout Europe, North- and South America, Canada, Asia, Australia and Africa. Four albums on which he collaborated have been awarded with an Edison Award. Wolfert has furthermore worked with artists such as David Liebman, Arve Henriksen, Mark Feldman, Jeanne Lee, Mathias Eick, Michel Portal, Mats Eilertsen and Marilyn Mazur.

Apart from performing Wolfert also composed regularly for dance, theatre and film productions. Wolfert is a main subject teacher jazz piano & ensemble at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and Fontys in Tilburg, the Netherlands.
